Not Your Mother's Mahjong Open Play Event

There is something powerful that happens when women gather around a table. Conversations begin, laughter fills the room, new friendships form, and for a few hours, we have the opportunity to simply enjoy being together.

My own Mahjong journey started as a student. I personally take classes with The Mahj Boss to learn and improve my game, and I quickly discovered that what I loved about Mahjong went far beyond the tiles. I loved the laughter, the conversations and, most of all, the connection that happens when women gather around the table.

It made me think: Why not open up my own studio and create more opportunities for women to experience that same sense of community?

That is what I love most about bringing women together to play Mahjong at Tracey Hagen Photography Studio. I wanted to open my space to other women—not just as a photography studio, but as a place where women can gather, connect, support one another and have fun.

Yes, we come to play a game. We practice strategies, celebrate a winning hand and occasionally wonder what on earth we were thinking when we discarded that tile. But somewhere between the shuffling, laughter and friendly competition, something even more meaningful happens: community is created.

Women who may have arrived not knowing one another begin talking, sharing stories and cheering each other on. Connections happen naturally around the table. Sometimes those connections grow into friendships, business relationships and a support system that extends well beyond Mahjong.

For me, this feels like a natural extension of everything we have created at Tracey Hagen Photography.

Empowering women has always been at the heart of my brand. Through headshots and personal branding photo sessions, I help women confidently show up for their businesses and careers. Through boudoir photo sessions, I give women a space to celebrate themselves, their bodies and the woman they are today.

But I have always believed that empowering women can go beyond photography.

Creating opportunities for women to gather at the studio allows us to experience empowerment in a different way: through one another.

There is tremendous value in being surrounded by women who encourage you, support you, introduce you to someone new, share their experiences and remind you how important it is to make time for yourself.

Our Mahjong gatherings aren’t about being the best player at the table. Our guided open play creates a welcoming, supportive environment where women can enjoy the game while connecting with one another. It’s about pulling up a chair, putting away the distractions for a little while and enjoying genuine connection with other women.

I want Tracey Hagen Photography Studio to be more than the place you visit when it’s time for new portraits. I want it to be a space where women feel welcomed, seen, celebrated and connected.

Tracey Hagen Photography also specializes in photographing women 40+, celebrating the confidence, beauty, experience and individuality that come with every chapter of a woman’s life. Through headshots, personal branding and boudoir photo sessions, my goal is to help women see themselves in a way that feels powerful, authentic and worthy of being celebrated.

That mission also extends to our Women in Business printed magazine, where we celebrate and amplify the stories of women making an impact in our community. We are currently looking for Women in Business to be featured in our third edition, giving women an opportunity to share their stories, showcase their businesses and connect with an even larger community of women supporting women.

Whether we are creating portraits, sharing women’s stories in our magazine, or gathering around a Mahjong table, the purpose is connected: creating spaces where women can be seen, celebrated, supported and empowered by one another.

Photography will always be an important part of how we empower women. There is something transformative about seeing yourself in a beautiful portrait and recognizing the confident, powerful woman looking back at you.

But empowerment also happens when women sit across the table from one another.

Mahjong may be what brings us together, but the women around the table are what make it meaningful.
